9 March 2015

The Endsleigh Centre Hull

It is with regret that the Trustees of Institute of Our Lady of Mercy, confirmed today, Monday 9 March 2015, that the Endsleigh Centre will be closed as of 31st March. This decision follows a full consultation process with the staff of the Centre.

The Trustees met with their professional advisors and carefully considered all proposals received concerning the future operation and management of the Centre and the site. The Trustees will be writing to all those who put forward proposals to thank them for their interest and to inform them of their decision.

The Trustees realise that their decision to close Endsleigh will be a great sadness to the staff and a disappointment to everyone who has had a connection with the Centre. After carefully reviewing all the representations raised by both the Catholic and the wider community as well as the staff, the Trustees were not presented with either an option to purchase the Centre outright or any other viable proposal that would sustain its future, recognising that it can no longer be resourced by the Sisters of Mercy.

The Trustees also wish to reaffirm that they will be in touch with the families connected with the Hull Sands Memorial Garden to ensure that their needs will be properly taken into account in decisions concerning the property.

At the moment no decisions have been made about arrangements for the future of the property in the longer term. A further statement will be issued in due course.
